Adaptive Computer Empowerment Services, Inc. (A.C.E.S.)

A.C.E.S., a California Public Benefit Non-Profit Corporation and a 501(c)3, originally established in 1995, is a volunteer-driven organization refurbishing donated computer equipment and software for distribution to low-income San Diegans with disabilities and Seniors.

Computer & Technology Resource Center (CTRC)

The ACCRC collects and refurbishes old computers from businesses and individuals and provides technical training to disadvantaged individuals. The organization distributed about 500 Pentium-level computers last year to nonprofit organizations, schools, libraries, and economically disadvantaged individuals. The computers are free, but recipient pays the shipping charges. ACCRC designs its rebuilt computers to match the needs of recipients, with little or no cost to the recipient. It also provides a year of free repair and maintenance for all units distributed.

Computer Recycling Corp.

CRC has collected, refurbished and redistributed over 100,000 computers to schools in the San Francisco Bay area since its founding. Their Computers and Education project provides loaner and free computers to schools and nonprofit organizations. The nonprofit agency has affiliate locations in Santa Clara, Santa Rosa, and San Francisco. Public schools or non profits must apply for a donated computer through the website. CRC also provides new and refurbished laptops to individuals for $200.

Computer Recycling Project, Inc.

Collects and distributes older computers for school children and nonprofit organizations. It rents equipment on a deposit basis to nonprofit organizations and to children (K-12th grade). Serves Northern California area.

Computers for Classrooms

Provides computers to schools, low-income school children, and low-income individuals with disabilities. They also work with non-profit organizations and provide adult education classes. Charge $60 per computer. Individuals must be able to pick up the computers. Only will negotiate transport for 10 or more computers.

Computers for People Program (CFPP)

A program through Tri-County Independent Living (serving Humboldt, Del Norte and Trinity counties) that provides refurbished computers to people with disabilities. They ask for a $50 donation to cover program expenses. All the computers are donated desktop PCs, Pentium 4 or better. The computers are refurbished and reloaded with a licensed Windows XP operating system and Microsoft Security Essentials (comprehensive Anti Malware & Spyware protection). They do not provide Tech support or repairs of any kind. Only California residents of Humboldt, Del Norte and Trinity counties are eligible for the program. Ewaste Collective Computer & Technology Resource Center

Ewaste is a non-profit that accepts donations of household electronics and computer for recycling. They also give away refurbished computers to schools, non-profit organizations and economically and/or physically disadvantaged individuals. Our electronics and computer recycling efforts support our training program, where volunteers learn to reclaim, refurbish, and restore computers for home, school, and office applications.

Marin Computer Resource Center

The MCRC is the North Bay affiliate of the Alameda County Computer Resource Center operation. The facility staff collects and refurbishes old computers from businesses and individuals. Oakland Technology Exchange West

A project of the Marcus A. Foster Educational Institute, this nonprofit, school-run program finds and recycles computers. OTX-West provides classroom computers to the Oakland Unified School District and home computers to Oakland Unified middle and high school students? homes. Although they primarily focus on youth, OTX-West also will provide computers to people with disabilities who live in Oakland. Each computer is tested and loaded with legal and appropriate software for its intended use.

Project Endeavor

Project Endeavor distributes notebook computers and one year of free broadband Internet access to individuals who can demonstrate that they have a hearing loss in both ears of 40 DB or greater. The individual must be 17 years old or older, they must be a legal resident or U.S. citizen, and they must demonstrate that they are low-income. The individual must submit a completed application by fax or e-mail to Project Endeavor and must pay a $250 fee to receive the computer and Internet service.
